I looked forward to vacation,
With the gravest trepidation,
For I had a list of things that could not wait.
From the basement to the attic,
Chores had waited, mostly static,
With hectic lives, spring cleaning somehow ran a little late.
For the house has seen disasters,
And there's laundry to the rafters,
And dust is still an enemy my Mom taught me to hate.
My list was quite auspicious,
For my plans were quite ambitious,
A bucket, and a scrub brush seemed to me to be my fate.
Vacation time drew ever near,
My plans were laid, intentions clear,
A red "X" on my calendar, clearly marked the date.
And then one morning, warm and clear,
My "cleaning date" was finally here,
The timetable was set in stone, with no room for debate.
But my plan went to perdition,
'Cuz a personal tradition,
Says a person on vacation can sleep to an hour that's late.
So when I opened up my eyes,
To my dismay, and great surprise,
I'd slept through half the attic, it was going to have to wait.
And thus procrastination,
Left it's mark on my vacation,
The impetus was lost, and lists no longer seemed to rate.
I aired the house, and on the run,
The urgent business quickly done,
I loaded up the car and left,.......the list would have to wait.
And off I went to to my home town,
Where smiling faces met my frown,
And lovingly, reminded me, before it was too late.
That Mom, and friends, and family,
Should always have priority,
In truth, they are the only things that truely can not wait.
And so home from my vacation,
Without any hesitation,
I destroyed the list, and hugged my kids......housework always waits.
